Stress Disorder
Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical tension. It can come from any event or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, or nervous. When you sense danger whether it’s real or imagined the body’s defenses kick into high gear in a rapid, automatic process known as the “fight-or-flight” reaction or the “stress response.”
According to prevalence rates, stress prevalence ranged from 12% to 18%. Common symptoms of stress includes:
- Physical Symptoms: Headaches, muscle tension, stomach issues, frequent aches and pains, lack of energy, and sleep disturbances.
- Emotional Symptoms: Irritability, mood swings, feeling overwhelmed, difficulty concentration, depression, anxiety.
- Behavioral Symptoms: Avoidance of certain places or people, changes in eating or sleeping patterns, and increased use of substances, choosing to be alone, procrastination etc.
Causes of stress include major life changes, relationship difficulties, financial problems, being too busy, family issues children and family and internal causes of stress include pessimism, inability to accept uncertainty, rigid thinking, lack of flexibility, negative self-talk, unrealistic expectations / perfectionism, all-or-nothing attitude.
Treatment for stress includes counseling, therapy, meditation and medication if needed.
